Flying from the UK.
To build excitement for your impending trip these are some of the resources we can provide to groups travelling with The Responsible Safari Company.
Compiling the correct risk assessment for your group can be time consuming and having local knowledge of Malawi, the areas you will be travelling and the risks the group needs to be aware of is invaluable. When you arrive in Malawi we will spend a morning leading a group Malawi initiation that will outline issues such as cultural awareness, responsible travel, health and safety and working on community projects. We strongly advise that each member of the groups seeks medical advice in terms of inoculations and Malaria prophylactics. We have attached a document outlining the risks of Malaria and Bilharzia.
A great way to get your group excited and prepared for their trip to Malawi is running fundraising events. In the past groups have held Malawian themed nights, sporting events, car boot sales and also asked local businesses to sponsor them.
Under current EC regulations we are obliged to ensure that you are adequately covered with travel insurance at the time of travel. Please seek adequate cover or consult The Responsible Safari Company for advice. When taking out cover we strongly recommend that you read all the small print since some conditions and activities may be excluded.
Check with your airline and if you have space in your luggage let us know and we can advise on suitable extra items you can bring to Malawi to donate to your linked project/school.
Before you travel please complete the below form. These are for our records and to ensure we are aware of any special needs within the group and have up to date emergency contact details. In the past groups have found it easier to collate all student information on an excel spreadsheet and send email this sheet to RSC.
When you are in Malawi you will need individual spending money for food and rink on route and nights out. Some groups have found it easier to work on a kitty system instead of working out individual bills for each student.
Internet: We can organise a portable wireless card for the group to access the Internet while in Malawi. Alternatively in all main towns there will be Internet access either through wireless or Internet cafes.
Phone: Upon arrival we will give the group a local Malawian Sim Card for ease of communication in Malawi.
Carry on your Malawian adventure after you return. Here are some ideas on how to keep Malawi fresh in everyone's minds.
